Kerri & Oliver Bruce | A Romantic English Country Wedding in the Cotswold's
There is something incredibly special about an English country wedding in the summertime, and Kerri and Oliver Bruce’s beautiful celebration was the perfect example.
A traditional church ceremony surrounded by their closest friends and family, followed by a relaxed reception on a family farm in the Gloucestershire countryside, created a wedding that felt romantic, elegant and wonderfully personal.
From Kerri’s timeless wedding dress to wild, garden-inspired florals, long banquet tables and an incredible feast beneath the marquee, every element came together to create the most beautiful summer garden party atmosphere.
We are so excited to share the story of Kerri and Oliver’s Cotswolds wedding, and Kerri’s journey to finding her wedding dress at Annabel Sarah Bridal.
The Proposal: Cleeve Hill, Cheltenham
Kerri and Oliver became engaged on 29th November 2024 during an evening dog walk on Cleeve Hill in Cheltenham.
Set high above the Gloucestershire countryside, Cleeve Hill provided the backdrop for the beginning of their next chapter together before they began planning their romantic English country wedding.
A Romantic Gloucestershire Church Wedding
Kerri and Oliver chose to marry at St John the Apostle Church in Sheepscombe, surrounded by their closest friends and family.
Following their church ceremony, the celebrations continued at a family farm in Bisley, Gloucestershire, where they created an elegant but wonderfully relaxed countryside reception.
Their vision was a romantic English country wedding with the atmosphere of a summer garden party: timeless and beautiful, but never overly formal.
It was personal, understated and full of thoughtful details, with the Gloucestershire countryside providing the perfect setting.
Kerri’s Wedding Dress Journey
Finding the one doesn’t always happen at the first bridal boutique you visit, and Kerri’s story is a lovely reminder that sometimes it is worth continuing until you find both the right dress and the right experience.
Annabel Sarah Bridal was Kerri’s third wedding dress shopping experience, and this time she visited with her mum and grandmother, making the appointment even more special.
From the moment they arrived, Sally made everyone feel comfortable and relaxed.
“There was absolutely no pressure and we had plenty of time to try on several different styles, eventually narrowing it down to two.”
That relaxed approach is something that is incredibly important to us at Annabel Sarah Bridal. Wedding dress shopping should never feel rushed or pressured. Having the boutique privately to yourself gives you the time and space to explore different silhouettes, fabrics and details before deciding which dress truly feels like you.
And for Kerri, they eventually found it.
The Dress: Simple, Elegant and Beautifully Different
Kerri had a clear idea of some of the elements she wanted from her wedding dress, particularly an open back, but it was the balance between simplicity and beautiful design details that ultimately made her chosen gown so special.
“What I loved about the dress was that it felt simple and elegant, but still had details that made it different. I’d always wanted an open back, and I loved how clean and understated the front was in contrast.”
The lightweight fabric was another important consideration.
Rather than choosing something heavy or overly structured, Kerri wanted a gown that would move beautifully and feel effortless to wear throughout her summer wedding day.
The result was a timeless bridal look that felt perfectly at home within the romantic countryside setting.
The Detail Kerri Loved Most
While the open back and understated silhouette were beautiful, there was one particular feature that Kerri loved most: the train.
Rather than falling from a traditional centre seam, the train swept into the gown from either side before being finished with delicate buttons.
It created interest and drama from the back while maintaining the simplicity and elegance Kerri had fallen in love with.
There were also the most subtle sequins woven throughout the fabric.
As Kerri explained, they caught the light beautifully without taking anything away from the clean, understated appearance of the dress.
It was the perfect example of how a minimalist wedding dress can still have extraordinary detail.
Timeless, Romantic Bridal Styling
Kerri kept her bridal styling natural, soft and timeless.
Her hair, styled by Laura Leigh Hairdresser, was worn half-up with soft waves, while Victoria Abbosh created natural, enhancing bridal makeup.
The finished look complemented Kerri’s dress perfectly: polished and elegant while still feeling effortless.
Garden-Inspired Wedding Flowers
The romantic English garden theme continued through the flowers by The Bespoke Flower Co.
Natural greenery was combined with loose, garden-style flowers in soft whites, creams, blush and peach tones.
Rather than anything overly structured or formal, the arrangements were intentionally a little wild, creating the feeling that they belonged naturally within their beautiful countryside surroundings.
An Elegant Summer Marquee Reception in Bisley
Inside the marquee, Kerri and Oliver continued their warm and understated approach to styling.
Wooden tables were paired with glass candlesticks, soft green linen and cut-crystal glassware, creating an elegant tablescape that still felt relaxed enough for their summer garden party setting.
It was a beautiful example of countryside wedding styling: considered and luxurious without losing the warmth and personality of the day.
A Wedding Feast to Remember
Food played a huge part in creating the atmosphere Kerri and Oliver wanted for their reception.
Relish Catering began the celebrations with incredible canapés served alongside cocktails before guests sat down to beautiful Italian-style sharing boards.
For the main course, Côte de Boeuf was cooked to perfection and served banquet-style with generous sharing sides.
The sharing menu was perfectly suited to the relaxed atmosphere of the day, encouraging everyone around the tables to eat, talk and celebrate together.
Their wedding cake was created by Louise Cannon Cakes, while wedding wine came from St John Restaurant.
Celebrating Into the Evening
As the day moved into the evening, The After Party provided live music and helped turn the romantic country celebration into a proper party.
Rural Rides provided wedding transport, while the day itself was captured beautifully by photographer Megan Moore and filmmaker John Mark Films, preserving all of those fleeting moments for Kerri and Oliver to look back on for years to come.
Kerri’s Advice for Future Brides
After planning and experiencing her own wedding day, Kerri’s advice for other brides is wonderfully simple:
“Enjoy every moment and soak up having all your favourite people together in one place. It really does go by in a flash.”
And we couldn’t agree more.
Months, and sometimes years, go into planning a wedding, but the day itself passes unbelievably quickly. Take the time to look around, take everything in and enjoy seeing all of the people you love gathered together to celebrate you.
